Forgotten Tracks – April 9

Weekly look back on the tracks that charted but you don’t remember…

20 Years Ago -Jocelyn Enriquez “A Little Bit of Ecstasy” #81

Decent song, has kind of a strange breakdown in the middle that you don’t really hear in dance tracks….video has kind of a downward spiral vibe going on.

25 years Ago – The Shamen “Move Any Mountain” #85

Scottish ravers….the song is actally pretty fun and the video is  total trip.   A lot of the videos that come out from bands today really shoot for this type of look.   Of particular note is “Mr. C” the white guy in vest sans shirt, hanging upside down in a tree rapping…then dancing….it really is pretty fantastic…

30 Years Ago – Donna Allen “Serious” #36

This song went all the way to #21 and this was her only entry into the hot 100, but she has been around working.  She did tracks on a Sylvester Stallone movie in the 90s and and she also had a song on the soundtrack to the movie Precious.  She was on the voice 4 years ago but lost in her first battle round.

35 Years Ago- Greg Guidry “Goin’ Down” #25

This has a real Michael McDonald feel to it – Greg actually played in a band with McDonald when they were teenagers.  This track went all the way to #17 which is pretty solid and I kind of love the way it sounds.  Sadly Greg died  in a fire in 2003.

40 Years Ago- David Soul “Dont Give Up” #3

Hutch from “Starsky & Hutch” ….this track went to number #1 in the us and the UK.

45 Years Ago –  April Wine “You Could have Been a Lady” #80

Canadian AOR….this is a cover of a Hot Chocolate song, but I kind of like this version better than the original, its a little more uptempo and cleaner sounding….to each his own I guess….

50 Years Ago – Brenda and the Tabulation “Dry Your Eyes” #21

Brenda Payton – great voice, love this classic R&B track.  “Dry Your Eyes” went all the way to #20 on the Hot 100.  Sadly, Brenda died very young at the age of 46 in 1992.
